Only a 40-minute drive into Mozambique from the Kosi Bay border, along sandy roads, you will find the Aloha Estate. Privately situated right on the beach in the Ponta Mamoli marine reserve, is Aloha 22. The 'lodge type' layout features 4 separate buildings. The 3 bedrooms all overlook the sea and have truly captivating views. They are all on one level which opens up onto a wooden deck around the gazebo and swimming pool area. Please take note that the swimming pool does not have a child safety net. Bedrooms 1 and 2 both have 1 queen-sized bed. Bedroom 3, the family suite, comprises 2 rooms, one with a queen-size bed and one and 4 single beds, both bedrooms have separate en-suite bathrooms. These 2 bedrooms have an inter-leading door which can be locked or kept un-locked if you have kids. All bedrooms are air-conditioned, have their own private entrance doors, are comfortably furnished, have ceiling fans, bedside tables with bedside lamps, and en-suite bathrooms. Each bathroom has a shower, basin, toilet and bidet shower. All linen bath and pool towels are provided. No beach towels are provided. The entertainment area, featuring high vaulted ceilings with wooden beams, is located on a lower level to the bedroom section. It is tucked into the indigenous dune vegetation providing a cool, serene, wind-protected area where you can escape and rejuvenate. This open-plan area boasts a TV lounge and a kitchen which leads onto a large inside dining area which seamlessly blends with an external dining area leading onto the built-in braai nook. The purchase of charcoal and wood can be organized with the staff. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas hob, oven, microwave, crockery and cutlery for 10 people, fridge, freezer, and all the equipment that you would require in a kitchen for self-catering. There is a washing machine on site. While there is a TV there is no DSTV, however, you can stream DSTV via WiFi using your own login details. A filtered water tap is provided at the prep bowl in the kitchen. Only this water is drinkable. Teeth can be brushed with water in the bedrooms but are not to be consumed. If you prefer bottled water then please bring your own. The staff ensures there is ice available in the freezer; for larger quantities, you can buy bags of ice in Ponta Malongane or on the Zitundu Road - the White Pearl Road. For larger quantities, we suggest you stock up with bags of ice on your drive to the house. Cleaning materials are provided as well as black refuse bags. The housekeepers’ duties include washing dishes, making beds, and general cleaning. The staff does not do any cooking. A 5 to 10-minute walk down the beach brings you to Frederico's, a famous snorkeling spot, so do remember to bring along your snorkeling gear along! Between November and February from the deck you can witness turtles laying their eggs; be on the lookout for their tracks when you take a stroll on the beach in the evenings after dark. The hatchlings make their way to the ocean from January to March. Please note during the turtle laying/hatching season it is prohibited to walk on the beach at night with flashlights. Doing so may attract a large penalty - the Marine authorities regularly patrol. We urge visitors not to disturb the turtles in any way. Keep your distance, and speak in hushed tones, by being respectful not only do you expand your own experience you and generations to come can enjoy this unforgettable, awe-inspiring wonder. Humpback and Southern Right Whale sightings are common from July to November while pods of dolphins can be seen all year round. The Elephant Reserve where you can have a day picnic around one of the lakes is a 30-minute drive north. Elephants are now more regularly sighted, even at Aloha; lucky you if you spot these majestic animals. If you want hustle and bustle with all the tourist attractions it's a mere 15-minute drive to Ponta Malongane Village which also offers numerous restaurants, of course, local Portuguese cuisine is their specialty. Most are fairly rustic offering views over Lake Sugi, and a ‘must watch’ sunset over the lake. Ponta Malongane now boasts a Pharmacy and a small supermarket. Ice can also be purchased in the village. Ponta do Ouro is a 30-minute drive from Aloha. There you will find a bottle store, BCI bank (local Mozambican Bank), surf shops, fishing tackle shop, pharmacy, internet cafe, petrol station, a colorful food market where you can buy locally grown fruit and vegetables, alcohol, cigarettes, prawns, cashews, bread and the like. Ice can also be obtained at the market as well as from local shebeens. Quad bikes, surfboards, and kite surfing equipment can be hired and lessons are available in Ponta do Ouro. If you don't have a 4x4 vehicle, you can leave your car on the South African side of the border, the cost is R50 per car per day - your car will be safe. We can put you in contact with the person who does our border transfers, he charges R125 per person one way. Once you are at the house, other than your food and drinks, everything you require is there. A small shop at the Aloha entrance carries beer, a limited array of canned goods, tomatoes, onions etc. Bread, or pão as it is called, must be ordered the day before. There is a public launch site available at R100 per launch. Please take note: Although the house comfortably sleeps 10 guests it is the absolute maximum no of people allowed. Hi, it was a really please to be there and enjoyed to stay with family. The only thing i can mention here is related to the ramp near to Aloha#22 entrance has is bad no sure if is because of the rains during those day. I understand that one of the exciting things to come there is the up and downs along the road but in that specific case there's few this to be that on the pits. Congratulations as you are doing very good job and hope to be back soon. regards Amancio de Luze

    Things to improve:

The house shows some signs of wear and tear and we consider it poorly equipped overall, although it has the essentials / basics. I have already stayed in several houses in the Aloha complex and this was the least successful.Despite that, the stay went well. The satff is friendly and helpful and the location "does the rest"...

They are building around the place, and it was not mentioned, before hand. A little noise. The woodwork of the entire outside place also needs some TLC.

The fact that we found the snake on the deck just made our trip very uncomfortable and I was not that happy with the view due to the bush just Infront of the view deck.If you could cut the bush it would even eliminate reptiles

Without doubt one of the favorite Lodges I stayed in Mozambique, around Ponta Ouro, Malangane and Mamoli. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff, they they are friendly. We had two great evenings here, which obviously also added up to the experience. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relieve to be in such a quiet and peaceful environment. The swimming pool area at the end of the day was a great place to relax and appreciate the sun down and the ocean. The room are very comfortable, and the lounge and kitchen area has all the facilities you need; a true sample of excellence!
